Bologna ARTEFIERA
Bologna during the Contemporary Art Fair “Bologna Arte Fiera”
Just two hours from Florence, Bologna is a city bursting with medieval architecture and the buzz of being one of the wealthiest (and happiest) cities in Italy. It is home to the oldest university in the Western world, "Alma Mater Studiorum", founded in 1088, and until the early nineteenth century, when a large-scale urban reconstruction project was undertaken, Bologna remained one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe; to this day it remains unique in its historic value. Despite having suffered considerable bombing damage in 1944, Bologna's historic center, Europe's second largest after Venice, contains a wealth of important Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque artistic monuments. Due to its size and melting pot population, Bologna evokes the hustle and bustle of everyday Italian life.
Every year SRISA students visit Bologna’s international Contemporary Art Fair. The fair is divided into sections of contemporary and modern work, allowing students the opportunity to see the context from which much contemporary artwork stems. At ARTEFIERA students will have the privilege of seeing some of the world’s most important art from a wide variety of galleries, all under one roof.
