Community Service

At SRISA, we believe that the heart of studying abroad is not just in the classroom but in truly connecting with the community around you.

Engaging in community service while studying in Florence is a powerful way to give back, build lasting memories, and immerse yourself in the local culture. Through meaningful volunteer work, you’ll be able to leave a positive mark that will stay with you long after your time abroad.

A Legacy of Giving Back

Over the years, SRISA students have embraced the spirit of service by participating in impactful projects, including partnerships with UNICEF Florence. These opportunities allow students to help those in need and create strong bonds with fellow students and residents.

Here are some of our past and ongoing volunteer projects:

Florence Parks Cleanup

Join us in taking care of Florence’s public spaces. In partnership with local non-profits like La Fondazione Angeli del Bello, SRISA students help clean and restore local parks such as Piazza Indipendenza and Giardino delle Rose. It’s a simple but powerful way to contribute to the beauty of the city that welcomes us.

Pigotta Doll Project

SRISA students have had the chance to participate in UNICEF’s Pigotta Doll Project, where they hand-sewed unique dolls to raise money for children’s immunization worldwide. The dolls, sold for €20 each, represented more than just a craft—each stitch symbolized hope. SRISA students have proudly raised over €1,200 for UNICEF through this initiative, making a global impact from right here in Florence.

Knitting and Crochet Circle

Looking to channel your creativity while making a difference? SRISA students were hard at work crafting hats and scarves for a meaningful cause. Our talented students donated beautifully handmade items to the St. James Episcopal Church in Florence, ensuring local young children and newborns stay warm this winter. These heartfelt gifts were delivered along with Holiday Greetings from the Fall 2024 class, spreading warmth and community spirit beyond the classroom.

Art Projects with Local Orphanages

SRISA students led art projects with children from a local orphanage, combining creativity with compassion to brighten their lives through the joy of artistic expression.

These community service projects offer more than just a way to give back—they are a chance to engage, grow, and connect on a deeper level with Florence. By participating, you become part of a broader movement of global citizens committed to making the world a better place. Together, we can create lasting change while making Florence feel like home.
