My classes are more like collaborative laboratories of visual experimentation rather than a teacherstudent hierarchy. I inspire students by offering novel ways of seeing.
Jason Kofke (born in Pennsylvania, USA) earned his BFA in 2005 and MFA in 2008 from Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as a Visiting Scholar Recognition from the China Academy of Art. Kofke is an educator and artist who “uses art as salvage ethnography to attribute meaning to events and artifacts of the past,” and participates in international cultural exchange programs and artist residencies. Kofke’s projects attempt to lessen the divide between scientific specialization and lay knowledge.
As a scholar, Kofke collaborates with scientists globally to better inform his artwork and lectures. Based on his scholarship, Kofke produces art in the form of videos, drawings, installations, performances, and land art, exploring science, environment, and culture. As an educator, Kofke devotes his pedagogy to preparing a generation for impending changes in climate, culture, industry, and perspectives of humans, products, and the Earth.
