Studying fashion is not simply the study of clothing, it teaches us how to read society past and present.
Born in Lecce, Italy, Enrica Guidato is a successful fashion designer and educator. After studying in Florence and New York, where she received an Associate Degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology S.U.N.Y and a Diploma in Apparel Design from Polimoda, she began to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Since 1996, she has worked as a head and freelance designer for renowned companies in Tuscany and Milan, including GUESS? Handbags, DIADORA Womenswear, and luxury knitwear brands like G Gioi. She also spearheaded a column for over eight years called “Style and the City” in The Florentine magazine, where she offered a unique perspective on fashion and culture in Florence.
Regarding her academic career, in 2001, while continuing her design work, Guidato began teaching fashion design at Atelier, the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute (FUA), and Arte School. In 2003 she founded the Fashion Department at SRISA, where she currently serves as Head of the Department. She is Professor of Sustainable Clothing and Ethical Fashion, Clothing and Society, Trend Forecasting, and History of Italian Fashion, and organizes the SRISA Student Fashion Shows.
In 2016 she began a collaboration with IED, European Institute of Design, where she taught Fashion and Advertising, Digital Events, Semiotics of Fashion and Trend Forecasting. In 2020 she taught five masters courses in Trends Forecasting for POLIMODA. In 2025 she was selected to teach the leading course for third-year students preparing for graduation at the UNIFI Università’ di Firenze, Facoltà di Architettura. Today, as a designer and professor, Guidato focuses on creating and organizing fashion courses and events that maintain a constant link to the working fashion world.
