Beginning Painting, Color Strategies

This intermediate painting course is for students who have completed their foundation studies in painting. The class builds upon students’ previous knowledge of how to paint by emphasizing why and what they are making. Students will complete project-based works involving conceptual and visual stages that lead to resolved pieces. They will additionally be asked to identify and discuss what artistic influences they have and how those impact their paintings. Classroom assignments will be augmented by on-site research visits to Florentine museums like the Uffizi and Pitti Palace and to contemporary galleries and art museums such as Palazzo Strozzi. By the end of the semester, a student will have a body of work and additionally be able to discuss their paintings through both a written and oral artist statement.

SRISA studio courses will have personal and course materials to be purchased in Florence. Unless otherwise specified there is no need to bring consumable supplies with you. On the first day of class your professor will inform you of materials needed and where to get them in Florence.
