This course explores the masterpieces of Italian design and offers students a broad overview of the creative landscape of the 20th century, highlighting its historical, cultural, and technological context. Through lectures, discussions, and visual analysis, students will gain a deeper understanding of the designers, objects, companies, and artistic movements that contributed to Italy’s international reputation. Florence provides the perfect setting to experience first-hand the enduring legacy of Italian artisanship as it is a city of workshops, craftsmanship, and artistic heritage allowing students to visit onsite and discover historic botteghe. The course includes a trip to Milan where students will visit major institutions highlighting the excellence of Italian design.
