Basic graphic design skills, main graphic design software knowledge (i.e. Adobe suite)
Cities surround us with signs as much as it is our capability to recognize, decode, and use them. Cities like Florence, built upon so many layers of history and artistic and cultural milestones, offer a unique chance to expand and boost our knowledge and creativity by observing things from different points of view.
In this course, we will explore Florence to understand how the city really works and what we should be looking at. We will do this by mapping, analyzing, and using elements of everyday design, such as storefront signs and the remaining urban signs from throughout the epochs of the city. The material found in our explorations will be the basis of a graphic and visual design practice that every student will develop in different kinds of media, online and/or offline.
Design course intended for intermediate/advanced students in Communication Design. Students should come equipped with personal computer and Adobe software. SRISA studio courses will have personal and course materials to be purchased in Florence. Unless otherwise specified, there is no need to bring consumable supplies with you. On the first day of class, your professor will inform you ofthe materials needed and where to get them in Florence.
