Students should already have basic graphic design skills and the Adobe Suite softwares (InDesign / Illustrator / Photoshop) installed in their personal laptops. Additional courses in Digital Art or Communication would be helpful.
What does branding represent to designers, and what does it convey to its audience? In graphic design practice, we engage with several variables, including typography, color, layout, scale, and format. As designers, we should ask: How does the designer mediate and develop systems—or identities—that are driven by the unique traits and needs of the entity or client? How can design directly engage with the personality and sensibilities of a given context, such as a space, place, or political movement? The contemporary branding landscape demands a new kind of system due to the multitude of formats, outputs, and sites in which branding is present. Today’s designers are tasked with striking a balance to maintain consistency within modular and flexible systems. They are also assigned to distinguish the sometimes confusing line between ordinary opinion and Branding Design/marketing by pushing it closer to cultural identity.

SRISA studio courses will have personal and course materials to be purchased in Florence. Unless otherwise specified, there is no need to bring consumable supplies with you. On the first day of class, your professor will inform you of the materials needed and where to get them in Florence.
