Drawing I and/or Fundamentals of 2D Design are recommended

In this introductory painting course, students will learn the basic techniques of pictorial representation. Initial projects introduce the workings of paint handling, which include how to construct and begin a painting, the modeling of form through paint application, and the fundamentals of color mixing. Painting techniques such as alla prima painting, underpainting and the build-up of texture will also be studied. Through studio assignments, students will explore a variety of approaches to painting and gain competence using these techniques and materials. Studio assignments will be augmented by discussions, critiques, illustrated lectures, museum visits and the analysis of historic and contemporary paintings.

SRISA studio courses will have personal and course materials to be purchased in Florence. Unless otherwise specified, there is no need to bring consumable supplies with you. On the first day of class, your professor will inform you ofthe materials needed and where to get them in Florence.
