Curated by Pietro Gaglianò
For his first solo show in Florence, Ryts Monet focuses on the criticality of collective memory, the way it situates itself within historical monuments, its symbolic meaning as well as its declination in relation to mass culture.
The artist stresses various themes connected with this topic including all the controversial elements that contemporary culture creates in relation to the vast landscape regarding the production of images, the iconography of power, identity, the myth of success and consumer solicitation.
From ISIS iconoclast rage, who by producing ruins have multiplied the western fetishism towards them, to the loss of meaning in pictures as a result of their multiplication through time and space.
Ryts Monet describes without moralism humanity’s irrevocable need to fake, destroy and create new symbols.
The show proposes recent works, revisited in a new set-up and a series of new artworks in a project displayed at SRISA Gallery for the first time.
