Laura Pugno’s project for SRISA Gallery is titled L’invisibilità dell’inverno (The Invisibility of Winter), which is a title that invokes several elements recurrent in her artistic research. These include her intrigue with the sensorial dimension, its ambiguities and its contradictions, and landscape as a tool to increase or impede knowledge.
The works in this exhibition have a common reference to winter, the snow, the mountains, and they aim to focus an enquiry regarding the landscape and its contemporary representation. All human observations, even before the inclusion of the idea of representation, include an alteration of what is observed (both in cultural and in physical terms). Laura Pugno, with her synesthetic approach to things (the presence of things and their evocation), immerses herself in the many different ways the whiteness of the snow can dazzle and as a result manages to discover the most unexpected narratives, formalized in photos and sculptures that are showed here for the first time.
