SRISA Gallery is pleased to present, Doveva essere qui? (Was it Supposed to Be Here?), a solo exhibition by Gabriele Landi, curated by Federico Giannini.
Created specifically for the SRISA Gallery, the exhibition brings together a new body of work that has, until now, remained almost entirely unseen. Apart from a handful of fleeting glimpses shared through the artist’s social media—partial views and carefully cropped details—little has been revealed.
It seems as though Landi has chosen to introduce the exhibition gradually, leaving a trail of clues rather than offering a preview. Even the title, Doveva essere qui? (“Was it Supposed to Be Here?“), raises more questions than it answers. Rather than announcing certainty, it invites doubt, suggesting absence as much as presence and prompting the viewer to wonder what, exactly, was meant to be here.
For now, this is all we know. Perhaps these words, like the images released before them, are simply another clue—one more thread leading toward an exhibition that continues to reveal itself a little at a time.
About the Artist:
Gabriele Landi (b. 1971, Brussels, Belgium) is an Italian contemporary artist who lives and works in the province of La Spezia. A graduate of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Milano, his practice explores the relationship between material presence and absence through sculpture, installation, and works on paper. His work often invites viewers to consider the tension between what is visible and what is implied, where physical materials become a means of investigating memory, space, and perception.
Landi has exhibited widely throughout Italy in both solo and group exhibitions, including presentations at mudaC – Museo delle Arti Carrara; Vôtre Spazi Contemporanei; the Museo Nazionale dell’Antartide; and the Fondazione Dino Zoli. His work Eclisse, created in collaboration with Valeria Tognoni, is part of the permanent collection of the Museo d’Arte Paolo Pini in Milan.
