SRISA’s Jewelry Design courses give beginning and advanced students a hands-on experience while introducing them to the basic elements of design and fabrication of contemporary jewelry as wearable art. A solid foundation in workshop practices is combined with an emphasis on quality of design and craftsmanship.
Course Structure
Courses meet twice a week for a total of 6 hours and include a mixture of presentations, lectures, demonstrations, open studio, and one-on-one work with professors.
Mid-term and final critiques are an important component of all design courses in which students are required to attend and participate. Students develop multiple projects throughout the semester, the best of which are presented at the final student show. Some courses work on collaborative projects that are professionally printed and used to create a final collection. Field trips to design fairs and visits to museums and private design studios are essential to the design program.
