Housing Information

SRISA typically provides housing for enrolled students, offering a chance to experience daily Italian life and build connections with other SRISA students.

Housing options include:

Shared Apartments

  • Apartments are made up of primarily multi-person rooms (typically double or triple occupancy).
  • There is limited availability for single occupancy rooms in shared apartments.
    • Important: Most rooms in Florentine apartments are shared occupancy. We cannot guarantee any student a single room. Students are required to indicate a second choice when submitting their housing preferences. If a single room is needed for a medical reason, students must submit a doctor’s note and additional information supporting their request to housing@srisa.org

Housing costs include rent, reasonable utility usage, check-in service, staff assistance, and administrative fees.

Students are housed in residential apartments (not dorms), located within walking distance from the SRISA campuses. Apartments vary in size and amenities and are fully furnished with amenities for independent living.

Amenities

  • Kitchen with refrigerator and stove, oven and/or microwave
  • Dishes, pots, pans, flatware, and glasses
  • Bathroom with shower or bath with shower
  • Blankets and pillows
  • Internet

Students must bring a set of single/twin-sized sheets and towels as linens are not included.

Apartments vary in size with a combination of single and shared occupancy bedrooms (5-8 people average per apartment but this varies). None of the student apartments have air-conditioning, telephones, or dryers (apartments typically have washing machines). Mature students or those with specific needs may want to inquire about a private apartment or arrange their own housing.

Private Apartments

Mature students, those with specific needs, or students accompanied by family members may prefer private apartments. These are rented to individual SRISA students and allow for more customizable requests, but can cost more than shared options. To request a private apartment, contact the Housing Coordinator at housing@srisa.org before the enrollment deadline.

Arrange Your Own Housing

Students who want to arrange their own housing (or rent a private apartment through SRISA as outlined in the section above) can do so, except those from affiliate institutions or Faculty-Led Programs. In that case, they should consult the Study Abroad Office or program coordinator for specific requirements. SRISA is not responsible for independently arranged housing, including check-in/out procedures and any associated issues.

When will I know my housing arrangement?

Students choosing a shared or private apartment are considered confirmed and committed to the SRISA housing spot upon the enrollment deadline. They will then receive housing information via email approximately 2-4 weeks before their program begins.

This information will include the following:

  • Information on arriving in Florence
  • Apartment location
  • Roommate assignments

Dates and Housing Fees

  • To find SRISA Dates details, visit our Academic Calendar page.
  • To find SRISA Housing Fee details, visit our Tuition and Fees page.
  • Faculty-Led Program students should consult their program coordinator for specific dates and fees.

Housing fees include:

  • Shared accommodations in student apartments
  • Basic Utilities, Internet, and Final Cleaning Fee
  • Check-in coordination and apartment welcome bag
  • 24-hour SRISA Housing Emergency Assistance

Check-in & Check-out

Refer to the Academic Calendar for housing check-in and check-out details. Students cannot access apartments before or after these dates. The rental period starts at check-in and ends at check-out. If staying between terms, SRISA housing is an option but may involve extra fees. Students will not have access to apartments outside of program dates unless notified otherwise by our Housing Coordinator for students staying multiple terms.

Arrival and check-in details, along with housing assignments, will be sent to students approximately 2-4 weeks before the program starts. Check our Pre-Departure Information page for general details.

Housing Rules

Housing Rules are provided in the Housing Agreement and Pre-departure and Orientation Handbooks.
