Dr. Matthew Taylor is an Associate Professor of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He holds a degree in clinical psychology (University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1997). He teaches culturally-based courses such as Cross-Cultural psychology, Cross-Cultural Development, and American Culture and Minority Mental Health. Dr. Taylor’s research interests fall under the broad category of minority mental health and multicultural psychology, with specific emphasis on domestic and international minority experiences with and responses to racism/discrimination as well as multiracial identity development. Much of his most recent research has been in South Africa. Clinically, he has practiced in a variety of settings, most notably, the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (Indian Health Service hospital) (Phoenix, AZ), the American Indian Center of Mid-America (St. Louis, MO), the Arizona State Hospital, and the counseling center at Colorado State University. He has given numerous talks on race, interracial relationships, identity formation, and the mental health of minority groups.
