Course Description:
In this course we will experience what it is like to be an American in Italy. How the culture can be seen from an insider that is from both the US and Italy. Guest speakers will elaborate on art history, food cinema and how the culture is so rich and diverse. We will interview amazing locals that have passion and love for what they do. We will watch films that celebrate Italian Culture and Food. We will take you to see the markets, the artisans, the streets, the hidden treasures and show you everyday life in Florence. We will look at the relationships between Italian traditions, folklore and contemporary Italian society, for example the links between festivals, food, wines and film. Nowadays the image of Italy in the world is tightly connected with the global diffusion and promotion of its leading "Made in Italy" products, among which food, wines, and film are the most important. We will analyze films that celebrate Italian Culture and Food.
