Course Description:
Using the “Renaissance city” as a springboard for story ideas, students will learn the fundamentals of travel and destination-based writing, with the opportunity to practice the craft in a number of formats, from narrative feature writing to service journalism and roundups. They will develop the tools needed to write compellingly and sensitively about travel, avoiding clichés and cultural faux pas without sacrificing style and salability. With guidance from their instructor, interested students will have the chance to pitch or to send finished pieces on spec to local or special Italy-interest publications.
