Course Description:
This course is intended exclusively for highly advanced students who have already mastered many technical skills related to painting. The class builds upon a student’s previous knowledge of intermediate and advanced painting but requires them to push their art to highly advanced levels through self-discipline and critical analysis. The critical analysis section of the class includes the study of artistic theory through weekly readings and the submission of both a midterm and final paper discussing the development of their work in relation to art history, art theory, and contemporary artistic practice. Students are required to have self-directed projects that will be submitted to the professor before initiating a new body of work. Ultimately, Students will be working independently to emulate a professional artistic practice and will therefore, be expected to be self-motivated and disciplined. Entry into Painting IV will only be allowed for students after successful portfolio submission with SRISA administration.
SRISA studio courses will have personal and course materials to be purchased in Florence. Unless otherwise specified there is no need to bring consumable supplies with you. On the first day of class your professor will inform you of materials needed and where to get them in Florence.
