Course Description:
In the Painting IV studio course, students are asked to achieve a sense of thematic direction in their work to make a practice that is sound both technically and conceptually. Through rigorous study both in the studio and outside the classroom students will complete project-based works involving theoretical and visual stages that lead to resolved pieces. Students are required to contextualize their painting practice in relation to broader trends present in contemporary art practice. This contextualization takes the form of a research thesis that will accompany a student’s final project at the end of the semester.
SRISA studio courses will have personal and course materials to be purchased in Florence. Unless otherwise specified there is no need to bring consumable supplies with you. On the first day of class your professor will inform you of materials needed and where to get them in Florence.
