Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the creation of 3D forms and an understanding of space. Through an interpretive exploration of the elements of sculpture students are challenged to engage the history of sculpture while honing their technical rendering skills. Elaboration in clay, wood and steel are all introduced to the students through a series of exercises and experiments that involve assemblage, subtractive and additive methods of sculpture. Conceptual investigation and the quest for new approaches to traditional materials are integral to this course. The course employs site visits to contrasting collections to explore the world of 3 dimensional objects and varied approaches to technical and conceptual investigation.
SRISA studio courses will have personal and course materials to be purchased in Florence. Unless otherwise specified there is no need to bring consumable supplies with you. On the first day of class your professor will inform you of materials needed and where to get them in Florence.
