This course is inspired by the concept that fashion is a form of artistic and creative expression, representing, in each era, the spirit of its time and place. The course focuses on fashion evolution throughout the ages, analyzing how contemporary culture and Avant-garde art movements have fascinated and inspired the most famous fashion designers of the last two centuries. Students will expand their artistic knowledge by identifying, understanding and translating forms of dialogue between the two worlds.
This interdisciplinary course will combine theoretical and practical studies; the program includes: research, idea development, visual installation, sketching and graphic illustration, portfolio development, pattern making, cutting and draping techniques as well as garment construction. Following a first theoretical approach, students will learn to use their imagination, translating it into their creative vision. They will be required to give form to their own interpretation regarding the connection between fashion and art by designing an individual project.
