Course Description:
In times of isolation and immobility, storytellers take on an important role. Drawing inspiration from the plague-era-escapist storytelling seen in Boccaccio’s canonical Italian work, the Decameron, students will embrace writing as a tool for personal exploration and excavation. Students will compose essays that they may submit for publication in Italy-based outlets The Florentine and/or The Local Italy. Throughout the process, their instructor will guide them through the fundamentals and etiquette of both pitching and on-spec submissions.
Course Purpose:
To learn how writers can transport ourselves (and, importantly, our readers) to new worlds using our minds, memories and words.
The Project:
Students will compose a series of essays that they may submit for publication in Italy-based outlets The Florentine and/or The Local Italy. Throughout the process, their instructor will guide them through the fundamentals and etiquette of both pitching and on-spec submissions.
