Subjects: Classroom Structure & Instruction: Academic Lecture Classes: These classes meet 3 hours per week. Most classes meet twice a week. Classes combine in-class lectures, discussion and on-site visits and instruction. Most academic courses are reading and writing intensive and will require a minimum of 6-9 hours of work outside of regular class-time. Studio Classes: These hands on courses meet twice a week for a total of 6 hours per week. Studio courses combine practical lessons, in-class demonstrations and slide presentations. When possible students go on-site to work or visit exhibits or museums of relevance to subject being studied. All courses require outside reading and in-class critiques both individual and in groups. More advanced studio courses may require written assignments and many require students to keep a sketchbook. Grading and Evaluation: Students are graded using the AmericanUniversity model of evaluation Field Trips: Most courses integrate on-site visits to museums and exhibitions. Many may require day trips. These excursions are considered an integral part of the course curriculum and attendance is mandatory. The fees for these excursions are not included in tuition fees and students will be invoiced separately after the end of add-drop, for these excursions. Registering for courses Students enroll through a one of the four departments, fine arts, Liberal arts and Italian Studies, Design or Italian. Within each department students choose a concentration such as photography or fashion design. Students then pick two courses from a list of courses in each concentration and are free to pick additional courses from the course offerings. All students enroll in Italian Language for a minimum of 4 credit hours. Who studies at SRISA? Though the majority of students studying at SRISA are American, many students come from all over the world. Most are undergraduate or postgraduate students that come for one semester.A majority of the students are art majors however many students do not choose to study art but rather to focus on art history, history or many of the other areas of study offered at SRISA.
